Echo: Cydia tweak to recreate the iOS 16 music widget on devices not compatible with iOS 16.  Another new iOS 16 exclusive feature can be experienced on an older iOS version using the Echo Cydia tweak on jailbroken devices.

The "Now Playing" widget that appears on the lock screen is among the big changes in Apple's iOS 16 software update. Unfortunately, that means those who stay on a jailbroken iPhone will have an old-fashioned widget. Unless they install a new jailbreak tweak called Echo from developer Hyperixa.

Echo brings the aesthetics of the iOS 16 widget to jailbroken devices running iOS 14 (and soon iOS 15, hopefully). A way to taste the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, a bit like the Helix tweak that brings the new lockscreen.

Once installed, the "Now Playing" widget is smaller and takes up the bottom part of the lock screen instead of taking up the entire centre of the interface as it does on iOS 15 and earlier. Here is a demo video provided by Hyperixa to show you more:

The improved widget, while more compact, still displays all the relevant information you'd expect, including media name, author, accompanying artwork, and playback controls. You'll also notice that Echo shows the icon for the currently playing app and there are two ways to show album art. A tap on the small image makes it large, and vice versa.

After installation, among the aesthetic options you can configure, there are:

  • Enable and configure a custom background color
  • Enable and configure a custom color
  • Set up a song title color
  • Configure artist title color
  • Configure a color for the remaining time
  • Configure a color for the duration of time
  • Configure the background color of the progress bar
  • Configure the color of the progress bar track
  • Configure play button color
  • Configure the color of the previous track button
  • Configure the color of the next track button
  • Configure the color of an AirPlay button

Although the goal of Echo is to imitate iOS 16, its level of customization allows you to go even further, which is very appreciable.

If you're interested, Echo is sold for $2 from the Hyperixa repository through your favorite package manager app like Cydia, Sileo , or Zebra . The tweak is only compatible with the iOS 14 jailbreak.
