Apple introduced the 3D Touch first on the iPhone 6s and now, recent iPhones come with the Haptic touch. The difference between Haptic Touch and 3D Touch is essentially based on the force of the touch. 3D Touch is more of a pressure-sensitive pop, whereas, Haptic Touch is a long press paired with electric feedback when you press.

If you are having an iDevice with 3D Touch or Haptic touch, follow the steps below in order to secretly read WhatsApp messages without letting the sender know you've actually read them:
  • To start, make sure you have the latest WhatsApp for iOS installed on your iPhone. Recent versions of WhatsApp have both Haptic and 3D Touch compatibility features.
  • Next, when you receive a WhatsApp message while in WhatsApp, tapping on the chat will open the conversation screen and trigger the blue tick indicating you've seen the message. But this isn't what we want.
  • Instead, tap and hold the conversation, applying slightly more force if nothing happens. Before long a 'peek' window will appear, giving you a quick glance at the conversation without triggering a read receipt. Stop pressing and feast your eyes on the message. You will need to press hard on a 3D Touch iPhone or long-press if your iPhone supports Haptic Touch instead.
  • And finally, tap the peek window to 'pop' it to full-screen, or tap outside the window to close it. Doing the latter will not mark your message as 'read' on the recipient's phone, allowing extra time to reply without the pressure of the person knowing you've seen the message.
